Date: Wednesday June 2, 2021

Time: 10:00 – 11:00am

Across all jurisdictions, pharmacists have been essential in delivering Canada’s influenza campaigns. Influenza poses an enormous burden on older adults due to their decreased immune status and lower immune response to the standard-dose vaccine.

This learning activity will review the efficacy and safety of available influenza vaccines, which are specially formulated to improve older adults’ immunogenicity. It will provide pharmacists with the knowledge needed to discuss these options with their older patients.

Upon participation you will be better able to:

  1. Discuss immunosenescence and its impact on the burden of influenza in older adults
  2. Discuss effectiveness of available influenza vaccines in adults 65+ years
  3. Define “real-world evidence” and outline its strengths and limitations
  4. Outline current recommendations for the use of influenza vaccines in older adults
