Educational Video Series – Non-Sterile Compounding of a Topical Powder
The PTSA Education Committee has created a second educational video! The video illustrates incorrect use of personal protective equipment, appropriate donning and doffing practice, and how a pharmacy technician may accept and observe help from an unregulated pharmacy staff member while compounding a non-sterile compound.
There are four tasks from the pharmacy technician scope of practice that are highlighted in this video. They are:
1. Compound drugs according to a written formula and preparation process
2. Repackage drugs following appropriate procedures
3. Supervise a provisional pharmacy technician or a student pharmacy technician in the performance of restricted activities
4. Supervise an employee engaged in compounding or providing drugs for sale
The series of videos can be shared with the public to help with understanding about how pharmacy technicians help patients the most. It is also meant to help pharmacy teams integrate pharmacy technicians working to full scope of practice. Please share the video with your colleagues to create awareness.
If you have topic suggestions for future videos please leave them in the comments below or email info@ptsa.ca.
