These are exciting, yet challenging times for our profession as we look to the future and embrace changes that will enhance and expand our role.

Now, more than ever, the Society needs motivated, forward thinking Committee members who are passionate about the future and dedicated to supporting our membership and ensuring the profession is promoted.

PTSA welcomes pharmacy technicians from all pharmacy workplaces – community, hospital, long term care and from all roles – whether dispensary or specialty roles.  Our business is done extensively using technology – e.g., email, teleconference and videoconference – and, as a result, no matter where you live in the province of Alberta, your contribution will be welcomed.

If you are one of these people and are interested in getting involved sign up today!

Some of the areas you can volunteer:

Communications

The communications committee is focused on implementing strategies to engage with the membership and help pharmacy technicians stay connected. Communications volunteers write blogs for the website/newsletter, use social media platforms, and maintain and improve the website so the information accessible is relevant and current.

Advocacy

PTSA has a role to play in advocating for changes within the healthcare environment that will provide opportunities for pharmacy technicians to evolve their roles. The committee works on initiatives to promote the value of pharmacy technicians and advocates for the expansion of scopes of practice so that more practice opportunities are available. The advocacy committee meets monthly online.

Education

Providing access to quality continuing education designed for, and authored by, pharmacy technicians that is accessible across the province is the focus of PTSA education committee volunteers. With the expansion of the types of education available there are a number of volunteer opportunities available from helping develop the education plan, authoring or presenting CEs, reviewing CEs for the purpose of achieving accreditation and hosting live webinars and in-person events.
