Core duties may include, but are not limited to: Order entry, medication preparation, repackaging and final product checking of sterile and non-sterile products, individual patient prescriptions, and ward stock. Providing guidance to and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students. Providing clinical support through obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarifies discrepancies and/or collects and organizes information to support the provision of direct patient care. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues Maintaining a high standard of performance through completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic technique, computer order entry, and final product checking. Participating in special projects and programs as assigned. Maintaining department records, statistics and preparing reports as required. Some duties require lifting of up to 15-30 lbs. and pushing and pulling of carts.

Description:

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) Ethics and Jurisprudence exam. Work experience in hospital pharmacy or community Pharmacy and asset. Fluency in the English language (both written and verbal). Demonstrated communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational, and problem solving. Preferred Qualifications:

Membership with a pharmacy professional organization is preferred. Experience with Windows-based computer applications an asset. Committee membership or project work an asset. Committed to continual personal quality improvement and lifelong learning.
