As a member of the Peace River Hospital Pharmacy Team, the Pharmacy Technician will work with Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacists working to their full scope of practice. Pharmacy Technicians work collaboratively within the health care team performing moderately complex duties, performing all aspects of drug distribution to provide efficient daily operation of all departmental services leading to safe and quality patient care.

There is the potential to provide coverage at other pharmacies within the Northwest zone if interested.

Core duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Medication preparation, repackaging, and final product checking non-sterile products, individual patient prescriptions, and wardstock.
  • Knowledge of purchasing, receiving, & inventory control of pharmaceuticals to minimize outdated medications, and provision of ward stock.
  • Guiding & assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students.
  • Maintaining department records, and statistics and preparing reports as required.
  • Maintaining a high standard of performance through the completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic technique, computer order entry, and final product checking.
  • Participate in special projects, and perform other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
  • Must be in good physical condition as the majority of shift involves static positions, heavy lifting, crouching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.

Additional Qualifications

  • 2+ Years Regulated Pharmacy Technician with Alberta College of Pharmacists
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the following: communication (verbal and written), interpersonal abilities, organizational and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and in teams as required, computer skills, continual personal quality improvement, and lifelong learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Local Site knowledge or experience is an asset.
  • Prior hospital experience with a variety of responsibilities
  • Epic Computer Software: 1+ yr experience in dispensing, and inventory management
  • Membership with a pharmacy professional organization
